How to Customize Your RepoClip Video

Learn how to use custom instructions to control narration tone, visual style, voice selection, and content focus in your generated videos.

What Are Custom Instructions?

When generating a video, RepoClip provides an optional text field where you can type instructions for the AI. These custom instructions influence how the AI writes the script, selects visuals, and chooses narration style. Think of it as a creative brief for the AI. You can write anything from a single sentence to a detailed paragraph.

Controlling Narration Tone

By default, the AI chooses a professional, neutral tone. You can change this with instructions like "Use a casual, friendly tone" or "Make it sound exciting and energetic." The AI adjusts the script's language, pacing, and word choice accordingly. For technical audiences, try "Focus on architecture and technical details." For non-technical audiences, try "Explain features in simple terms without jargon."

Choosing a Voice

RepoClip uses OpenAI's text-to-speech with six available voices: alloy, echo, fable, onyx, nova, and shimmer. The AI automatically selects a voice that matches your project, but you can override this. For example, "Use the nova voice" or "I want a deep, authoritative voice" in your custom instructions.

Visual Style

The AI generates original images for each scene. Custom instructions can influence the visual style: "Use minimalist, clean illustrations" or "Anime-style visuals" or "Dark theme with neon accents." The image prompts are adapted based on your instructions while maintaining professional quality.

Content Focus

By default, the AI highlights what it considers the most important features. You can redirect this focus: "Focus on the REST API and authentication system" or "Emphasize the real-time collaboration features" or "This is for investors, highlight market potential and scalability." The AI restructures the script to prioritize the areas you specify.

Example Custom Instructions

Here are instructions that work well: "Casual tone, focus on developer experience, use the echo voice" or "This is a CLI tool, show command examples, keep it under 45 seconds" or "Japanese startup audience, highlight speed and cost savings, energetic tone." Combining multiple directions in one instruction is fine — the AI handles compound requests well.
